Ballroom Assistant

Job Title: Ballroom Assistant (Tier 1)

Location: The State Ballroom at Talley Student Union

Supervision: Reports to the Operations Manager and Paige Johnson, Lead Audiovisual Coordinator

Work Schedule: Event-Based schedule; 8-20 hours per week between 7am and 11 pm; includes nights and weekends; occasionally special hours apply

Compensation: Minimum starting wage $8.50/hr with opportunity for raises based on years of service within Campus Enterprises

CE Expectations: As student employees with Campus Enterprises we expect you to be professional and to be present for your shift. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Arriving early for shifts
  • Having on a complete uniform
  • Clocking in and clocking out in a timely fashion
  • Cellphones are only used at appropriate times
  • Prioritize the client
  • Finish all duties before taking a break

Purpose: NC State Student Centers works  to create memorable experiences for all students, guests and alumni here at NC State. Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Manage Ballroom Operating Procedures

  • Strike, clean, and set up ballrooms according to Standard Operating Procedures
  • Utilize 7PointOps and Social Tables to accurately set up ballrooms
  • Perform housekeeping duties during ballroom turnover:
    • Trash/Recycling
    • Wipe surfaces/equipment
    • Move dirty furniture to first floor
    • Sweep/mop floors
    • Vacuum stage and steps
  • Deliver event packages from Loading Dock if necessary 
  • Assist with setup and testing of Audio/Visual equipment (i.e. Podiums, Mics, Projectors, etc.) 
  • Maintain organized and safe facilities, venues and work areas
  • Set up and store equipment (tables, chairs, A/V equipment) with care and precision
  • Plan ahead and manage time to ensure smooth transition of room setups between events

Customer Service & Standard Employee Expectations

  • Uphold a superior level of customer service
  • Proactively interact with students and guests to answer questions about NC State University and NC State Student Centers
  • Use problem solving skills to provide event adjustments for clients in a fast-paced setting
  • Plan ahead and manage time to ensure smooth transition of room setups between events
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times
  • Remain in compliance with NC State Student Centers student employee policies and expectations at all times
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by Operations Manager or Campus Enterprises administration

Essential Qualifications:

  • Current NC State University student with a flexible schedule
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work with a team to serve a diverse population
  • Previous experience as an Event Assistant preferred
  • Elevated oral and written communication skills
  • Must attend mandatory student employee orientation and training sessions
