2023-2024 Academic Year
The inaugural Advisory Committee launched in October 2023 to gather feedback and advocate for students. In spring 2024, the group asked students to complete surveys and participate in focus groups to gain a deeper understanding of how students engage with the Student Centers. In our first survey, we gathered responses from 98 individuals, 96% of whom were students. The most common reasons for visiting the Student Centers were to eat, study or spend time with friends. Sixty-eight percent of respondents said they come for dining, while 70% said they visit to study or socialize. Additionally, 74% of participants indicated that they are satisfied with the current operating hours of 7 a.m. to midnight.
In our second survey, we received responses from 71 individuals to evaluate how well we are meeting our mission of providing a clean, safe and welcoming environment for the NC State community. The results were overwhelmingly positive: 95% of respondents said the cleanliness of the Student Centers either meets their expectations or is better than most places on campus; 97% reported feeling safe at the Student Centers; and 98% said they are somewhat satisfied or greatly satisfied with the services and amenities.
SCAC Report
2024-2025 Academic Year
In Spring 2025, the Student Centers Advisory Committee led an ongoing effort to gather student feedback on the Talley Student Union experience. The committee developed and promoted a targeted survey, which received over 1,000 responses, and facilitated a follow-up focus group to gain additional insight. This effort culminated in a formal report outlining observations and recommendations, which was presented to the Student Centers’ leadership. The project reflects an ongoing commitment to enhancing campus spaces through thoughtful data collection, student-centered evaluation, and actionable insights.
The Talley Student Experience Insights project has been completed, representing a significant milestone of student-centered accountability for the 24-25 academic year. The broad engagement effort elevated the student voice by synthesizing feedback from over one thousand students into an actionable, student-driven plan for improvement. The formal report and recommendations for next steps are actively being utilized by the Student Centers’ leadership to guide important decisions about facilities, resources, and program development. This commitment provides a structure to ensure the Talley Student Union’s evolution is purposeful, functional, and reflective of the needs of the campus community in its entirety, all while reinforcing Talley Student Union’s place as the inviting center of student life.
SCAC Report
2025-2026 Academic Year
The Student Centers Advisory Committee is currently working on a seating census of Talley Student Union. Members of our team are going around Talley to check when seats are available or occupied. Our goal is to better understand seating patterns in Talley and find ways to make the most of our space.
Our primary goal is to gain insights into the seating patterns within Talley. By systematically collecting this data, we aim to identify trends in how and when students use the space. Understanding these patterns will not only help us recognize peak usage times but also enhance our ability to allocate seating more effectively. Ultimately, the findings from this census will inform our decisions on how to optimize the space in Talley Student Union.
